Industry Week magazine recently interviewed Blue Ridge Numerics President Ed Williams on the role of CFD in product design. Williams stated that the company was founded to demonstrate that CFD should be used by product designers and that a primary goal of their CFdesign CFD package is ease of use, so that CFD can be incorporated into the design process.
Just hearing the words 'computational fluid dynamics' is usually enough to send shudders down the spines of most product-development engineers. The mention of CFD still tends to conjure up images of stern-looking men in white lab coats conducting experiments in NASA test cells.
