CFX Extends Support of Itanium Platform

News Continuing its longstanding relationship with HP, ANSYS Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that CFX®-5.6, the latest version of the company’s best-in-class computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, is now available on 64-bit Intel Itanium 2-based workstations running HP-UX 11i.

The move will give CFX customers access to more computing power, reducing the time required to optimize all aspects of fluid-flow analysis within their overall product design and manufacturing processes. CFX-5 is already the technology leader with its coupled multi-grid solver that simultaneously solves the full system of hydrodynamic equations. HP’s Itanium-based workstations give engineers the power they need to tackle much more complicated problems than previously possible on 32-bit machines.

“With the release of CFX-5.6, we have added support for the Itanium 2 64-bit chip, running HP-UX 11i,” said Dr. Michael Raw, vice president of product development for ANSYS’ fluids business. “HP’s 64-bit Itanium platforms represent an important step forward in advanced computer hardware, and are well suited to the demands of compute-intensive applications like CFD. With this release of CFX-5, we continue to show our commitment to advanced high-performance computing platforms. This announcement reinforces our strong relationship with HP. We worked closely with HP’s Itanium team to ensure the rapid availability of our software on workstations like their zx2000 and zx6000, and received excellent support from them during our porting efforts.”

"ANSYS customers want a stable, fast platform for their simulation needs. HP's Itanium servers and workstations, combining Intel's powerful Itanium chip with the time-tested HP-UX operating system, meets their computational needs quite nicely," said Lynn Lewis, CAE Segment Manager of HP. "ANSYS 6.0 was one of the first computer-aided engineering software product available on our Itanium-based HP-UX platform, and this is yet another sign of the commitment ANSYS has to our industry-leading workstations."
