News Future Facilities and Tubbesing Sales Company’s subsidiary Data Center Planners (DCP) have announced a partnership aimed at providing improved data center cooling solutions to companies in Texas and Oklahoma.

DCP will model and simulate data centers using Future Facilities 6SigmaDC product suite. DCP will also sell and support 6SigmaDC.

“We chose 6SigmaDC because it is designed specifically to analyze and optimize data centers and the components within them,” said Jim Tubbesing, owner of Tubbesing Sales Company. “6SigmaDC is the only software that models the entire cooling path including the effects of the individual server and blade. The result is that we can help our customers improve their cooling efficiency to a higher level than was ever possible in the past.”

“For example, we recently used 6SigmaDC to perform an efficiency study for a customer comparing conventional computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units with in-line cooling,” said Aaron Casey, system engineer for DCP. “One analysis showed that in-line cooling would save our customer $12,000 per year and pay back its cost in less than two years. We analyzed another customer’s data center and showed them that by relocating equipment they could avoid the need to buy another CRAC. With 6SigmaDC we can clearly help our customers save a lot of money by reducing capital investment and operating costs of their data centers.”

DCP’s mission is to help design, build, analyze, and commission critical data center facilities for its customers. DCP’s comprehensive data center assessments include a site inspection, an evaluation of the load capacity constraints, identification of critical deficiencies and potential downtime risks and recommendations for improvements. DCP also provides project management services to assure that the construction and installation process contributes to the highest availability of the data center.

“Today’s data centers change at a rapid rate in order to meet the IT needs that are brought upon them by the business requirements,” said Aaron Casey, account manager for DCP. “This change brings on a new set of challenges for the personnel that must maintain the facility critical infrastructure. With every new server, switch, or storage device that is added or moved, a change is caused in the critical infrastructure that supports the IT equipment. These changes if not checked periodically, can cause problems that can lead to failure or even downtime.

6SigmaDC establishes the concept of the Virtual Facility© as the vehicle for optimal design as well as the day-to-day operation of the modern Mission Critical Facility. The Virtual Facility© concept uses 3-D mathematical modeling for scientific validation of design assumptions as well as the assessment of the thermal and environmental impacts as data center equipment is upgraded and refreshed. As such, it provides a true cradle-to-grave methodology to optimize engineering decisions as well as to help with load capacity planning throughout the facility lifecycle.

“6SigmaDC gives us unparalleled capabilities to optimize the performance of our customers’ data centers,” Tubbesing said. “Every other tool models only 75% of the cooling path by stopping at the point where the air path goes into the server. 6SigmaDC is the only software that models the entire cooling path including the effects of the individual server or blade chassis. The result is that we can help our customers improve their cooling efficiency to a higher level than was ever possible in the past. Overall, how would you know if you data center could handle today’s load and future loads without using some sort of modeling? Future Facilities is that modeling tool we use that has provided us great results.”
