OpenFOAM is an open source library for numerical simulations in continuum mechanics. Written in C++ and in strictly object-oriented model, it incorporates state-of-the-art numerical modelling and extensive capabilities in modular form for easy user customisation. This includes a full suite of fluid flow models, including laminar, turbulent (RANS, LES and DES), multi-phase, free surface and reacting flows, as well as non-linear stress analysis solvers and coupled fluid-structure interaction. Library capabilities are enhanced with efficient and massively parallel linear equation solvers, flexible moving deforming mesh modules with polyhedral cell support, Lagrangian spray modelling, real material properties library etc. All of this is available in full source, allowing for easy customisation to the problem at hand.
The Workshop is tailored for users with experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), looking for an alternative to the closed model of commercial CFD solvers. The objective is to present the design rationale and capabilities of OpenFOAM and introduce the audience to the new level of interaction and customisation in a CFD solver.
