Announcements Expenses of compliance for SOX limits in the Clean Air Interstate Rule are potentially high. Operators are looking for low cost methods to get the most out of their existing pollution control equipment in order to avoid significant capital expenditures, and technology developers want to reduce design outlays.

A session titled Low Cost Optimization Flue Gas Desulfurization Equipment will be held at the Electric Power Expo on April 30, 2007 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Chicago, IL

Flow and thermal distribution is often the key to optimizing Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) equipment. If, for example, flow is skewed to one side of a scrubber, one risks limited SOx reduction through a maldistribution of spray. We will discuss some of the basics of scrubber and duct fluid mechanics, mass and heat transfer, as well as methods for assuring uniform flow distribution in ducts and flue gas clean-up equipment.

Who should attend?

  • Utility scrubber project managers
  • Consulting engineers
  • Scrubber contractors
  • Scrubber technology developers

Session Chairperson: Dave Schowalter, Lead Consulting Engineer, ANSYS, Inc.
Speaker: Steve Bowen, President, Nels Consulting Services Inc.
