Abstract:
In both the US and EU, emission regulation legislation is coming into force which requires pump designers to optimize their designs at multiple operating points. With traditional manual, iterative design processes, this is very difficult to do even for experienced designers. Using automatic optimization tools with direct design based processes can provide good solutions if the problem is well understood, but requires vast amounts of design and analysis time and hence is a slow, expensive solution which is not applicable to all cases.
The inverse design process however makes automatic optimization feasible for all companies via two main differences to the direct design approach:
- Significantly fewer parameters are required for geometry definition
- All designs produce the same specific work, leading to far more accurate understanding from the generated response surfaces
