Announcements NAFEMS will hold CFD for Structural Designers & Analysts, a three-session online training course beginning February 22nd.

Structural engineers often need to resort to more sophisticated thermal fluid simulations to obtain boundary conditions, loading, performance, etc. for their designs and analyses. Additionally, many engineering problems include strong interaction between structure and fluid.

This course aims to introduce the essential principles of fluid dynamics, important flow phenomena, and basics of Computational Fluid Dynamics process to structural engineers and how CFD can be beneficial for their multidisciplinary problems.

Course Details
The CFD for Structural Designers and Analysts course provides the principles of fluid dynamics, turbulence, and heat transfer relevant to structural analyses. The material include simple and practical examples and case studies.

Course syllabus breakdown

  • Background to loads and boundary Condition calculation in structural analysis
  • Coupling between Structural and CFD simulation
  • Definitions and governing principles of fluid dynamics
  • Flow classifications
  • Important concepts and phenomena
  • Introduction to CFD
  • Turbulence
  • Introduction to heat transfer
  • Review of typical project analysis requirements and the processes available

E-learning courses are great alternatives and complements for continued education as they offer convenience and eliminate the need to travel. Strong effort is made for the course to be software neutral. However, examples from some of the more well known and popular simulation cases and software will be used throughout the session. Full notes are provided for the attendees.
