System-of-Systems Simulation Using the FMI Standard |
In order to design safer and better performing products in less time and at lower costs, it is necessary to account for these system interactions early in the design phase, using a System-of-systems simulation approach. This means, using Best-in-class, specialized tools to model each system with high accuracy, and co-simulation to account for the interactions. One such method is using the FMI standard which specifies an open format for exporting and importing simulation models into a co-simulation framework.
Thermo-fluid systems of any size and complexity can be modeled in Simcenter Flomaster; these models can be exported and reused in the wider framework of a System-Of-Systems analysis. Critically, this can be done by preparing an existing Flomaster model for use in a matter of minutes, as will be demonstrated in this web seminar.
This dynamic modeling of the interactions among different systems, opens the door to effective optimization and harmonization of system behaviors. This is not the only advantage provided by using FMI. The exported models can also be reused in different design phases and in different departments, increasing the value of model-based design and of the investment in simulation.
