ANSYS, Inc., a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced the latest release of CFX-TurboGrid version 2.2, a specialized software tool used by rotating machinery designers and engineers. CFX-TurboGrid combines both the sector specific knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamic simulation for rotating machinery from ANSYS CFX, and the market leading mesh generation technology from ANSYS ICEM CFD.
CFX-TurboGrid is used to create the high-quality meshes specifically required for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of bladed rows for rotating machinery. In an industry where small increases in machine performance can result in significant increases in output, the ability to take design improvements and quickly create a mesh for engineering simulations will translate to larger profits. CFX-TurboGrid can be used to quickly generate highly suitable meshes for the analysis of pumps, turbines, compressors, fans, torque converters, nozzles, diffusers and many other kinds of rotating machinery.

CFX-TurboGrid version 2.2, a major upgrade to CFX turbomachinery grid generation capabilities, brings a new level of speed, automation, flexibility and high mesh quality to the CFX-TurboGrid product for a wide range of axial and radial turbomachinery bladed row components. CFX-TurboGrid version 2.2 automatically generates high quality meshes by determining appropriate mesh parameter settings based on prescribed heuristics that account for the geometry with little or no user input. Meshes use hexahedral elements only, and important geometric areas such as the tip gap can be included. Both interactive response time and speed of 3-D mesh generation has been taken to a new industry level. Using new interactive features to refine the mesh, changes to the mesh are displayed interactively, and turnaround time for full 3-D mesh generation can be as little as 10 seconds for one million node meshes on a typical modern desktop PC.
“With this latest release of CFX-TurboGrid, we are achieving excellent mesh quality, with great ease-of-use and really tremendous speed. We are quite excited at how this will provide our customers with a unique tool to help them be leaders in designing state-of-the-art turbomachinery,” said Dr. Michael Raw, vice president CFX Product Development at ANSYS, Inc. “CFX-TurboGrid complements, of course, the suite of ANSYS structural simulation tools, providing users with complete CAE solutions for their engineering simulation of rotating machinery.”
